In the beginning of this year, I attended the very first New Jersey Education Expo for “National School Choice Week” at Trenton. The event was hosted by New Jersey Coalition for Learners, and they are returning this January 25th, 2025. (1)
“The New Jersey Coalition for Learners is grassroots, non-partisan movement dedicated to empowering families, students, and educators to shape the future of education in the Garden State, and beyond, by placing communities at the center of the conversation.” (2)
Only three or four legislators bothered to show up, but many leaders in education attended and spoke. Also, some Conservative Republican leaders spoke in support of School Choice. One outspoken leader supporting Common Sense government like School Choice has been Bill Spadea.
The organizers of the event do a great job of blocking out any political party biases in order to bridge the gap, in search of better education for children. Different technologies and different approaches to funding education are on display for attendees to ponder and interact with. This annual event is an opportunity to hold your elected officials’ feet to the fire. Invite legislators to attend and propose to them your beliefs. Show them a different way.
